Abstract

In a passenger vehicle energy efficiency is a factor of paramount importance for the
global market. The need to lower energy consumption yet achieve same or better
performance levels. The transmission is a system that acts directly on the fuel
consumption of a vehicle. The present work has the objective of presenting the
evolution of the automatic transmission in passenger cars with regard to energy
efficiency, through comparisons, data analysis and bibliographic review, resulting in
extensive knowledge of automotive transmissions, with emphasis on automatic vs.
manual transmissions, and extruding its components and functions.
